The American Petroleum Institute’s Jack Gerard on Thursday said Ohio electric power generation demonstrates how increasing natural gas use has lowered carbon emissions.
Gerard also said the U.S. is a leader in reducing carbon emissions and pointed to an increase in natural gas use as a reason why.
“In Ohio, carbon dioxide emissions from electric power generation are down over 25 percent due in part to clean-burning natural gas. Increased production and a cleaner environment are not mutually exclusive as some have suggested,” Gerard said in a statement. “Massive investments by our nation’s world-class refiners in cleaner gasoline have improved air quality adding to America’s global energy leadership.”
The statement follows a campaign by the API to educate voters on energy public policies and candidates stances on energy issues.
