A pro-drilling industry group today launched Ohio’s first jobs site looking specifically at employment opportunities in the Utica shale.
The site, started by Energy in Depth-Ohio, is at www.EIDOhio.org/jobsite.
It is designed to be a one-stop resource for Ohioans to become aware of job opportunities in Ohio’s developing natural gas and oil industry, said spokesman Dan Alfaro.
The interactive jobs portal is designed to connect job seekers with companies and vendors developing natural gas and oil in the Utica shale, as well as the supply chain that supports those companies, he said.
It lists job openings offered by 22 companies involved in developing wells in eastern Ohio, although many of the jobs posted are outside of Ohio.
The site also outlines what degrees or certifications are needed for career paths in the gas and oil industry.
“With over 10,000 jobs created last year alone and studies projecting the creation of over 204,000 jobs through 2015, it’s important that Ohioans know what great opportunities exist here in the Buckeye State,” Alfaro said.
“Energy in Depth-Ohio is committed to ensuring Ohioans are in the best possible position to take advantage of these opportunities. This site helps facilitate that by providing a direct connection between the industry and our communities, an important step in putting Ohio back to work and returning prosperity to our state,” he said.
The new website was hailed by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce’s Ohio Shale Coalition.
“The Ohio Shale Coalition salutes Energy in Depth for creating a comprehensive center on its website for Ohioans seeking career training and employment opportunities related to shale energy. This is another example of how Ohio is doing it right,” said Linda Woggon, executive vice president of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.
The website was also hailed in a statement by Richard F. Redadow, executive vice president of the Akron Chamber of Commerce.
